Highlights

All the winners bested their handicaps. Don Tchir won the triple crown – low gross in his flight, closest to the pin and the long drive. I believe that is the first time that has happened. Roger Dubois won his flight and a closest to the pin.

Closest to Pin/Longest Drive

Tank Hollingsworth on #3; Steve Culler #7; Don Tchir on #12; Roger Dubois on #17. Long drive from the white tees – Jimmy Ross; Long drive from the gold tees – Don Tchir.

Rain Policy and Decisions

The most difficult decision for a tournament director is canceling a tournament because of inclement weather. I canceled the October tournament on Wednesday evening because it rained heavily on Wednesday and the forecast called for showers on Thursday. I also took into account that River Falls would invoke the cart path only policy for the tournament. I decided to play this tournament based on no rain on Wednesday and the forecast calling for a 50 percent chance of showers on Thursday. Unfortunately, we had a heavy shower just as we reached our opening holes. Thankfully, it cleared up and we stayed dry for the rest of the day. I utilize a website suggested by Jack Shearer (www.radar.weather.gov/Conus/southeast_loop.php) which gives a very clear picture of approaching weather systems.
