Highlights
Carl Ford shot par in the first flight; in the scratch flightTim McFall shot one over from the white tees. In fact the highest score in the scratch flight was 80. There were five scores in the 70’s in the first flight. Larry Stallcup has a 76 gross and 70 net but lost out in the tiebreaker for the 7th spot. In the second flight, Larry Smith shot an 84/69 but lost out in the tiebreaker. Overall, the scores were lower this year than last year at Brookstone. Last year it was breezy and this is a course that demands you keep your ball on or close to the fairway. Interestingly, there were many members who cashed in last year repeating their success this year. “Horses for courses” would fit here.
Closest to Pin/Longest Drive
Hugh Ables on #3; Carl Ford on #7; Gary Heck (1”) on #11; Terry Kamp (1’) on #13; missing on #17. Long drive from the white tees – Jimmy Ross; long drive from the gold tees – Ron Gambrell.
Next Tournament
Willow Creek CC – Thursday, April 10th
Starting time is 9:00 AM and the cost is $23. The Pro Shop is
848-4999. I should receive all entries by Monday, April 7th. Please adhere to the deadline. Invite a guest.
Rule Clarification
I have been interpreting a scoring rule incorrectly. I thought that if you signed for a score that was lower than your actual score you were disqualified and if you signed for a higher score, that score stood. I was informed by Todd Ellison, one of the pros at Brookstone (he showed me the rule), that it is the committee (in this case the scorer) who is responsible for the total and if the score on each hole is correct and the total is incorrect, the player is not disqualified. It is only when a player has an incorrect score on a hole and signs his card is he disqualified.
Scorecards
Please post only the scores of the golfer whose name appears on the scorecard. When you keep score for more than one golfer on the scorecard, it can confuse the member recording the score on the flight cards and slow down the scoring process. Get an additional scorecard from the pro shop if you wish to keep track of other’s scores.
May Golf Trip
Let me know ASAP if you are going to Arrowhead Pointe (Tuesday, May 27th, $41) and/or Highland Walk (Wednesday, May 28th, $36). If you are planning on staying at the Best Western in Hartwell (706-376-4700, $43.11 per person, double occupancy), you must make your reservation by April 30th. Bring a foursome and enjoy two of the best courses in the southeast. Arrowhead Pointe was chosen as 2nd best new public course in the country two years ago. Guests can compete for prizes with an established handicap.
