Those who have had the privelege of playing a round of golf with Gary know what a great ball striker he is. He doesn’t miss fairways and his wedge game is awesome. Gary proves the point that length is not everything. Although he averages about 210 yards off the tee, he consistently wins the first flight. I first met Gary a couple of years ago when he called and asked about the competetiveness of our group. I invited him to play as a guest and when he discovered he could get all the competition he wanted, he joined and has been an enthusiastic member. Gary has underwritten the web site, so when you see him next time, thank him. He is known for his generous and friendly nature and is the most encouraging golf partner you will find.

Phil started working for Regal Textile Corporation (now Mt. Vernon Mills) right out of high school during WWII delivering telegrams. He worked his way to the top of the company and retired as President. He played semi-Pro baseball (catcher, outfield, first base) in Ware Shoals until the advent of TV reduced attendance.

Phil has played with the Foothills Senior Golf Association almost since its inception. Phil enjoys the competition and the comaraderie of golf.

If you are paired with a lefty who knocks down pins and is deadly on the greens, say hello to Phil Balentine who started shooting his age almost 10 years ago.
